BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The boys cross- country team competed in their first meet on Thursday at the Deerfield Opener. The boys competed well in the heat and were able to start their season off on the right foot. The Frosh Soph boys were able to place second and the JV boys stepped up and took 4th in the Varsity race! The boys will compete again Wednesday at the Lake County Invite in Waukegan.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Warren Girls Cross Country team had their first meet of the 2021 season and their first traditional race style in 2 years this past Thursday. The team competed at the Deerfield Invitational and got the season off to a great start. A huge congratulations to Fatima Naveed, Gloria Mcatee, Olivia Suarez, Katie Wiklund, Victoria Higgins, Joselyn Schenk, Justyce Sieber, Savana Swietlik, Grace Wiser, and Isabella Gibbs on racing their first ever high school cross country race. The future of the Blue Devils looks bright!
Under extremely hot temperatures and not ideal conditions, the Lady Blue Devils had 5 (almost 6) girls place under 21 minutes in the 3 mile race. Kylie Florence, Brook Sturt, and Grace Metcalf came ready to race and had big time season PR's coming off from their time trials at the start of the season. Great performances from the team all around on a hot day and great to see the competition being back all running together! The girls are looking forward to showcasing their speed at the Art Campbell Lake County Invite this upcoming Wednesday.
FOOTBALL
Blue Devil football got off to a great start to the season with a solid 19-0 win over Barrington. The defense was stellar in the shutout. The offense was led by Maurice Edwards with 195 yards rushing. Friday night is the home opener with a showdown against Maine South.
BOYS GOLF
Warren placed 5th in the Lake County Invite. Low score score for Warren was Nick Steinhilber with an 80. Warren hosts an Invite on Monday at Strawberry Creek. Tuesday begins 3 straight days against NSC foes Lake Zurich, Zion, and Waukegan.
GIRLS GOLF
Varsity played in the Lake County Invite at Bittersweet on Monday. Juniors Alaina Goeden and Mia Cosnotti shot 91 to lead the team, junior Gracie Haupt 93, and freshman Jordan Dodd 97. On Tuesday, the team’s home match versus McHenry was rained out after three holes. Saturday morning the team volunteered at the Northern IL Food Bank. This week’s Warren Way Athlete of the Week is sophomore Sophia Pas. She was nominated by two teammates for “being a tremendous help with the shuttle bus for underclassmen, being super helpful with the newbies on the team, and being amazingly kind during practice and matches.” Next week the team hosts Lake Zurich on Tuesday and travels to Stevenson on Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
Warren soccer went 2-1 at the Grayslake North Invite under very hot conditions. They defeated Grayslake North 7-1. Goals were scored by Cael Harris (2), Matt Hegge (2), Matt Paraskos, Ryan Staniak, and Emilio Mancera. They defeated Harvard 1-0. Emilio Mancera scored for the Devils and Justin Uribe had 2 saves. On Saturday, the lost a tough one to Prairie Ridge 1-0. This week they take on Highland Park on Tuesday and Indian Trail on Thursday.
GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING
The Blue Devils took 5th place at the Lake Forest Relays. Next up is the first conference meet of the season against Libertyville.
GIRLS TENNIS
The varsity team had a nice win over Lake Forest Academy 5-2. The JV2 split duals with a win over Vernon Hills and a loss to Libertyville. JV1 hosted a quad and swept Mundelein and Antioch while losing a competitive match to New Trier. This week the Devils go against Grant on Tuesday and host a quad on Saturday.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The varsity team took 5th place at Crosstown Invite. Their overall record of the week is 4 – 3. If you haven’t checked out a varsity home volleyball match yet this season, you are missing out! They are a very exciting team to watch.
The JV team got a big win vs. Carmel Catholic High School this week in their first match of the season. In their quad this weekend, they took 7th place, making big gains as a team as they learned how to work together and be a team.
The sophomores lost their first home game against Glenbrook North and went 1-2 in the Lake Forest quad on Saturday.
This week Volleyball is at Lakes on Tuesday night, then Wednesday we will be hosting Grant. On the weekend, there are tournaments and quads for all levels. It will be another busy week for the volleyball program.
