BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The boys cross-country team had a great showing at the Midwest Invite in Janesville, WI. They faced some tough competition and came away with a 2nd place trophy. They fought hard against the 48 team field and only lost to the #1 ranked team in Wisconsin. Varsity runners included Nate Garcia, Ryan Moats, Fahim Rafi, Cole Kaether, David Lara, and Luke Wiley. Wiley was the overall champion on the day by 9 seconds running 15:05 for 5k. The JV guys ran solid as well putting two in the top 6 and finishing 5th as a team. Medalists included Calix Flores in 3rd and Ryan Alyassir in 6th. The boys head to Zion on Tuesday and split their squad sending the Varsity to Peoria and JV to Antioch.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Warren Girls Cross Country competed at the 48 team Janesville Invitational on Saturday. The Girls all competed well and ran their hearts out. Overall, most of the team ran a PR for the season on a 5K course!! Incredibly impressive and well deserved for these hard working young ladies. Shout out to Emma Leung for winning the Blue Race and Mia Pasha for placing 3rd in Varsity. So many great races in Blue, White, and Varsity races to name them all, so shout out to the whole team for a great meet! The Blue Devils will be competing at numerous fun locations next week. They are at Zion on Tuesday. The varsity will compete in Peoria on Saturday > The JV will be at the Antioch Invitational.
FOOTBALL
Blue Devil football destroyed Stevenson 41-3 on Friday. Maurice Edwards ran for a whopping 203 yards on only 14 carries, including a 95 yard touchdown run. Cassius Callahan ran back both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns. As usual, the defense was stellar allowing only a field goal. This week Waukegan comes to town for Friday night’s Homecoming game.
BOYS GOLF
The Varsity boys golf team had a very successful week! On Tuesday, they placed 2nd at the NSC tournament, shooting 307. Second place is the best finish for a boys golf team in school history at the conference tournament! Top scores were Andreas Ackron and Anders Johnson 75, Alex Welder 78,Vaughn Hartnig and Nick Steinhilber 79. On Wednesday, they defeated Carmel 164-170 at Pine Meadow. Nick Steinhilber and Vaughn Hartnig shot 40 while Andreas Ackron and Cameron Simmons shot 42. On Saturday, they placed 9th out of 16 teams at the Lake Forest Invite, shooting 332. Top scores were Vaughn Hartnig 79, Alex Welder and Nick Steinhilber 83, Anders Johnson and Rohan Iyer 87. Coming up this week, the boys face Grayslake North on Monday at home and play in the IHSA Regional at Deerfield on Wednesday.
GIRLS GOLF
The team placed 5th in the Conference Tournament at Fox Lake on Wednesday. Gracie Haupt lead the team with a 96 and placed 17th. Alaina Goeden shot 97, Ally Badgley 98, Jordan Dodd 99, Josie Leibfried 109, Kylee Wiltse 117, and Olivia Pas 132.
- JV also placed 5th at the Prairie Lake Invitational. Sophia Pas lead the team with a 101 and placed 4th! Emily Meyers 110, Anika Youngman 114, Soly Colon 133, Alexis Ehlebracht 134, Madi Byrne 137, and Daniella Alba 143.
- Congratulations to Gracie Haupt for being our team’s NSC Sportsmanship Award winner! One player from each Conference team is recognized for this honor. Well done, Gracie!
- On Saturday, the team placed 2nd in its home invitational with a team score of 378. Gracie Haupt lead the team with a 90 and placed 5th. Josie Leibfried shot a career best 94 and placed 9th. Sophia Pas shot a career best 97 and placed 10th. Also playing for Varsity: Alaina Goeden 97, Kylee Wiltse 97, Ally Badgley 100, Olivia Pas 120.
- This week’s Warren Way Athletes of the Week are our senior captains, Kylee Wiltse and Olivia Pas! We’d like to recognize them for their leadership, sportsmanship, and hard work throughout the season. Teammates said “Kylee tries very hard to plan out our team bonding activities and devotes a lot of her free time into improving the team behind the scenes. She also helps so much with the underclassmen and making sure everyone feels connected. Her positive energy is uplifting!” Teammates said “Olivia is one of the most positive, supportive, and thoughtful players. She constantly helps motivate people to put in their best effort while having fun. She is overall such a fun person to be around and constantly brings smiles to teammates’ faces.”
- The team competes in the Regional tournament on Thursday at Fox Lake.
BOYS SOCCER
Blue Devil soccer had a big conference win on Tuesday. They shut out Stevenson 2-0. Goals were scored by Miguel Garcia and Ryan Stanciak. On Thursday, the Devils tied Waukegan 1-1. Matt Hegge scored the goal for Warren. On Saturday, Warren tied a very tough Evanston 2-2. Miguel Garcia scored both goals for the Devils. This week, they are at Carmel on Tuesday and at Mundelein on Thursday.
GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING
The girls faced Zion in a dual meet this week. Warren won on both levels. Varsity went to the Lake County Invite where the girls swam outstanding. Senior Grace Bevers placed 4th in the 200 Individual Medley and placed 1st with a new meet record and ISHA state qualifying time in the 100 backstroke. The record prior was Alumni Courtney Barker in 2015. Grace swam 57.41 which she is tied for the fast time in the state currently in the 100 backstroke! The medley relay and 200 Freestyle Relay which consists of Grace Bevers, Aly Wallander, Hailey Benoit, and Olivia Buccelli placed 6th. Senior Hailey Benoit placed 4th in the 100 backstroke. The girls gear up for Lake Forest and our Blue Devil Invite.
GIRLS TENNIS
The Girls varsity tennis improved to 15-1 with wins over Waukegan and Mundelein this week. The highlight was a team championship at the Crystal Lake Central Invitational on Saturday. All players medaled and taking home 1st place in their flights were doubles teams Elizabeth Payson/Kaija Johnson, Madu Chander/Isabel Grimes, and Peyton Mueller in singles. Great play by #1 singles Anastasia Radovic in singles and an excellent comeback win vs. Lake Zurich by #1 doubles team Shannon Mahoney/Jaya Ganapathi! JV also had wins vs. Waukegan and Mundelein and finished 2nd in the Niles North Quad on Saturday. This week they go to Libertyville on Tuesday and Wauconda on Wednesday. They host Lake Forest on Thursday. On Saturday ,the team hosts a quad against Niles North, Antioch, and Rockford Harlem.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Varsity – Varsity team won all 3 matches this week against Grayslake North, Stevenson and Lake Zurich. Varsity is 3 – 0 in conference. On Tuesday against Grayslake North, Junior Gabrielle Brewer had her 1,000 assists of her Warren career.
JV - Went 0-2 in their conference matches this week. The team is still working on staying mentally tough consistently through matches and resilience when they’re behind in points.
Sophomore – Sophomore team had a long week with 8 matches this week. They are “Persevering in the Process” .
FA – This week the Freshmen A girls suffered two close losses. The girls rallied from two losses to try a new lineup, including a libero. The new lineup along with some teamwork and never give up attitudes...and the girls added a conference win to end the week 1-2! Way to go girls!
FB – Went 1 – 2 this week with a big win against Lake Zurich.
This week, Blue Devil volleyball have home matches against Wauconda on Tuesday and Waukegan on Thursday.
