BOYS BASKETBALL
The Varsity Boys Basketball team went 1-2 in the prestigious Pontiac Holiday Tournament. The Blue Devils lost to Oak Park River Forest in their first game of the tournament, defeated Plainfield North in an exciting overtime game and then lost to Peoria Manual. Drew Dolan led the Blue Devil scoring in the first 2 games with 19 points and 18 points. Cooper Stacey led all scorers in the Peoria Manual game with 20 points. The Freshman Boys Basketball team won their Holiday Tournament and the Sophomore team went 4-1 in Jacobs Holiday Tournament. The Boys Basketball teams returned to conference action at Mundelein last Friday night. The Varsity team defeated Mundelein 53 – 36. Drew Dolan scored 17 points to lead all scorers and Adam Panek added 16 points. The Boys teams are at Libertyville Tuesday night and then are home against Lake Forest on Friday night. The Freshmen and Sophomore games start at 5:30pm and the Varsity game starts at 7pm.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Over the break the Varsity Girls Basketball team had a 3-1 record including a second place finish at the Grant Holiday Tournament. In their first game at the Grant Tourney Warren was lost to highly rated Deerfield 52-38. Leading Warren was Mariah Phelps with 15 pts and Grace Lynch with 12. In the second game of the tourney Warren defeated the host Grant Bulldogs 68-44. With almost everyone scoring, Warren was led by Grace Lynch with 20pts, and Mariah Phelps and Delaney Schild both with 14. To finish the abbreviated tourney, Warren beat Waukegan 58-19 with a host Blue Devils scoring including Grace Lynch with 11pts and Annika Gustafson with 10. Warren finished the Grant Tournament in second place with a 2-1 record. Congratulations to Mariah Phelps, Grace Lynch and Annika Gustafson who were named to the All-Tournament Team. Warren resumed play after their break with a hard fought 31-26 victory over the Mundelein Mustangs. Leading a depleted roster was Grace Lynch with 16pts. The Varsity Blue Devils currently are 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Conference.
BOYS BOWLING
The Blue Devils took 4th place at the NSC Tournament on Friday. On Saturday they came back tough by taking 2nd place at the Warren Invitational. The Devils were led by sophomore Quron Jones who took 3rd overall. Believe it or not, Warren competes in the IHSA Regional on Saturday.
GIRLS BOWLING
The Blue Devils are at Stevenson on Monday, at Lake Zurich on Tuesday, and host Zion on Wednesday. Saturday is the first Blue Devil Invite at Bertrands.
COMPETITIVE CHEER
The Blue Devils compete in the Grayslake North Invite on Saturday.
COMPETITIVE DANCE
The Devilettes compete at the NSC Championship on Thursday at Mundelein. On Saturday, they are at the South Elgin Invite.
GYMNASTICS
Girls gymnastics had a great week back. The girls fought hard and beat Lake Forest by .05 on Wednesday! Highlights include Amanda Hamann placing first on vault, bars, beam, floor and the all around. Evy Haggerty placed 4th on bars, beam and in the all-around. Mackenzie Liebau placed 5th on vault, floor and in the all-around. The girls also competed in the Straus Invite on Saturday and placed 4th out of 11! Amanda Hamann placed 2nd on vault, 2nd on bars, 3rd on floor and 1st in the all-around! The girls are ready to get back into practice this week and input new skills before we take on Libertyville Wednesday!
BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING
The Boys Swim and Dive team went 1-1 in the two dual meets over break. Warren lost to Stevenson and defeated Zion-Benton. Varsity traveled to Maine South High School for a relay meet Saturday. They placed 5th overall. All the boys swam hard with a tough meet swimming after one event after another. The 200 breaststroke relay placed 3rd which consisted of Evan Divito, Evan Berndt, Daniel Garcia and Will Bairstow. The 4 by 100 IM relay also placed 3rd which consisted of Jacob Flores, Evan Divito, Ivan Morales, and Evan Berndt. Senior Diver Blake Vander-Jeudgt placed 1st in the individual diving portion and 3rd in the relay portion of the meet. The swim and dive team face Lake Forest at home on Thursday. Varsity Swimmers travels to Titan Relays on Saturday and our divers travel to Hinsdale South for a diving competition.
WRESTLING
Welcome back from holiday break. The grapplers hope you feel well rested and relaxed! Wrestlers did get some rest over break, however they were also hard at work improving and competing. The freshmen team is 13-0 on the season and look to compete for the conference championship this Thursday at home versus Zion Benton and this Friday at Libertyville. The frosh competed in and won their third tournament of the year over break! Equally impressive is that both Josh Yoder (106 lbs.) and Anthony Soto (220 lbs.) have been contributing at the varsity level this season. Additional varsity wins have come from frosh Eli Mathews and Matt Vazquez over break.
- JV team completed at the Streamwood Team Invite over Winter Break to finish the 2021 year and took 1st place despite giving up 3 weight class in each dual meet. y defeated Jacobs 47-24; Streamwood 42-24; and Bartlett 39-34. The JV team was led by Daniel Currea 3-0/2 pins, Evan Onstad 3-0/2 pins. Giannmarco Beltran 3-0/2 pins & Tech Fall and Matt Vasquez 3-0/2 pins. Finally, the varsity competed at “ Cheesehead” wrestling tournament over winter break. The Cheesehead has teams from six states, consisting of 5 of the top 50 Nationally ranked teams, and 16 nationally ranked individual wrestlers. Competing for the Blue Devils were Josh Yoder (106 lbs.) Carlos Ordonez (113 lbs.) Jose Ordonez (120 lbs.) Evan Onstad (138 lbs.) Zach Sutor (145 lbs.) Giannmarco Beltran (152 lbs.) Nevin Mitrovic (170 lbs. ) and Jeremiah Hixson (195 lbs). Wrestlers placing in this national tournament were: Junior Evan Onstad 21st place; Sophomore Carlos Ordonez 12th place; Sophomore Jeremiah Hixson 12th place; Senior Nevin Mitrovic 12th place.
Frosh and JV will compete at home this Thursday vs Zion Benton, the entire program will compete at Libertyville on Friday night, and Saturday the frosh will host their own team tournament here at home and varsity will compete at a tournament at Nequa Valley High School.
