BOYS BASKETBALL
The Varsity Boys Basketball team started conference play this week with a 59 – 54 win over Zion on Tuesday and a 42 – 39 win over Lake Zurich on Saturday. In the Zion game, Cooper Stacey led all scorers with 24 points and Adam Panek added 14 for Warren. Cooper Stacey led all scorers in the Lake Zurich game scoring 23 points. Gavin Cartwright hit a game winning shot with 3.3 seconds on the clock to finish the Lake Zurich game. Boys Basketball has 2 non- conference games this week. They are at Fremd on Tuesday night and at Round Lake on Friday night.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The girls basketball team had a great week going 3-0, and continuing a 4 game winning streak! On Tuesday night, the Lady Blue Devils beat Zion 50-19. Leading scorers were senior Grace Lynch with 11 points and sophomore Mariah Phelps with 19. On Friday, the Lady Blue Devils won an exciting game vs. Lake Zurich 39-38. Leading scorers were Grace Lynch with 12 points, Mariah Phelps with 10 points, and sophomore Shay Love with 9. The Lady Blue Devils trailed for most of the game until senior Annika Gustafson scored the go ahead basket at the 2 minute mark. On Saturday, the Lady Blue Devils traveled to Vernon Hills on short rest to play an afternoon tilt against the Cougars. In a tight back and forth contest the Blue Devils pulled away to win 49-40. Leading scorers were Grace Lynch with 12 points including a big 3-pointer at the 1:30 mark to give the Blue Devils a 7 point lead. Other scorers were junior Gianna Black with 11 points and Angie Truelsen with 9 points including three straight 3 pointers in the 4th quarter. The Lady Blue Devils are currently 6-4 overall, and 3-1 tied for second place in the North Suburban Conference. This week, they are home Tuesday against Wauconda and at Stevenson on Friday. Saturday is the start of the Grant Holiday Tournament.
BOYS BOWLING
The Blue Devils defeated Libertyville 2762-2611. Leading the Devils was Jarrett Smith with a 671 series. Next up was a big win over Lake Zurich 2974-2792. Jarrett Smith led the way again with a 659 series for Warren. The varsity team took 2nd place at the Blue Devil Invite on Saturday. Sophomore Quron Jones led the Devils with a 1218 series. Logan McDermott and Eric Rissman placed in the top 5 for the JV in highest game with 244 and 224 respectively. This week, they are at Grant on Monday, home against Waukegan on Tuesday, home against Mundelein on Wednesday, and at Stevenson on Thursday.
GIRLS BOWLING
This week, the Blue Devils Girls Bowling team started the week off with a big win over Zion 2475-1876. Kayla Cameron led the way with a 649 series! Next was tough loss to Libertyville 2455-2483. Warren was led by Brianna Smith with a 576 series. Warren lost another very tight match to Mundelein 2103-2066. Kayla Cameron led the way with a 510 series. On Saturday, they competed at the Plainfield North Invitational. Kayla Smith placed 20th with a 194 average over 6 games. Brianna Smith placed 21st place with a 193 average. This week, is a busy one with home matches on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday against Grant, Waukegan, and Round Lake respectively. On Saturday, they compete in the Vernon Hill Invitational.
COMPETITIVE CHEER
Both the varsity and JV teams competed very well at the Stevenson Invitational on Sunday. The varsity placed 9th against very tough competition. The JV placed 8th after placing 18th the previous weekend! This week the teams compete at the Johnsburg Invite on Sunday.
COMPETITIVE DANCE
The varsity Devilettes placed 11th out of 24 teams and the JV placed 8th out of 16 teams at the very competitive Stevenson Invite. The Devilettes next competition is January 9th at Huntley.
GYMNASTICS
The Warren gymnastics team had a great week starting with a conference win for both varsity and JV on Wednesday against Mundelein. JV finishers: Gabby Parsell and Akshaiya Sivatharshan tied for 2nd on vault, Emma Stermitz tied for 4th on floor, Gabby Parsell placed 2nd all around and Charly Grinton placed 3rd all around. Varsity finishers: Hailey Krueger tied for 4th on vault and bars. Amanda Hamann placed 1st on vault, 3rd on bars, 2nd on beam, 1st on floor and 1st all around. The girls continued their successes at the Conant invite on Saturday placing tied for 3rd out of 11 teams. Junior Amanda Hamann lead the way with a 3rd place finish on vault, a 3rd place finish on bars, and a 1st place finish on beam, floor and All-Around. Hailey Krueger placed 4th on vault, 14th on beam, and 14th all around. Evy Haggerty placed 13th on beam and in the all-around. Emilia Montes placed 12th on beam. The team is back in action against Lake Forest January 5, at 5:30PM.
BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING
The swim team lost their conference opener to Libertyville. The boys swam and dove hard with great effort! This week is the Lake County Invitational on Saturday at Stevenson.
WRESTLING
Freshmen Wrestling: The freshmen wrestling team improved their dual meet record to 7-0 with a hard-fought victory over Lake Zurich (56-21).!! Outstanding wrestler of the match was Alex Valenzuela who beat his opponent by a major decision despite giving up 10 pounds. The frosh team divided their roster on Saturday which allowed everyone the opportunity to compete. Some wrestlers competed against Maine East and Vernon Hills where we went 20-20, while other wrestlers went to Niles North to help the junior varsity squad capture a 4th place finish. This week the frosh team competes at the Libertyville quad looking to improve their dual meet record to 10-0.
Girls Wrestling: Adriana Demos went 2-1 on the day and ended up placing 5th. Adriana locked in her weight certification at 145 and will look to make a state run at that weight this season.
JV Wrestling: The JV team was defeated on Friday night by Lake Zurich 24-57. This moved their conference record to 1-1 and overall record to 3-2-1. The JV team than competed in the Niles North JV Invite on Saturday. The JV team placed 4th out of 10 teams. They were led by outstanding performances by Evan Glowinski 1st place at 106, Alex Valenzuela 1st place at 126, Kaden Andersen 1st place at 132, Matt Velazquez 1st place at 220 and Jorge Valenzuela 3rd place at 120.
Varsity: Varsity wrestlers got a couple more new guys in the lineup this weekend, and missed a couple as well. The team is working hard and getting better! Conference wrestling entered its second week. Your varsity wrestlers were only able to recover half their 18 point deficit this week, unfortunately, losing to Lake Zurich 30 -39. Senior Nevin Mitrovic recorded a fall as well as Sophomores Jose and Carlos Ordonez and Jeremiah Hixson. Junior Zack Piszkiewicz and Frosh Anthony Soto also recorded victories for the Blue Devils. On Saturday, the varsity traveled to Downers Grove and competed in our second and final team tournament of the year. Your grapplers went 1-2 in the opening pool which placed them in the afternoon’s bronze division. Your wrestlers stepped up their game in the afternoon to go 2 – 0 and finish atop the bronze bracket. Sophomores Donovan McNeal, Dylan Grunwald, and Jacob Bolender got into the varsity line up this weekend AND recorded their first varsity wins for the Blue Devils. Sophomores Jerimiah Hixson and Jose Ordonez and Frosh Anthony Soto each went 4-1 on the day and just missed all tournament honors. Varsity wrestling will compete in “The Whitlach” this coming weekend at Hinsdale Central. This is arguably the top three most difficult individual tournaments in the state every year. Frosh will be off to a quad at Libertyville. Go Blue Devils!
