BASEBALL
The Devils continued their winning ways as they head into regional play this week. Warren defeated Mundelein twice, 12-5 and 4-3. In the first game Warren was led by Casey Cobe who hit a double a triple and had 4 RBI’s. Ryan Devries was 3-4 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Dru Jasnoch pitched another gem. A complete game throwing only 82 pitches. He raised his season record to 9-1. In game two, Thomas Kenney blasted the game winning home run. Bradley Vondruska was the winning pitcher, going 3 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 run, and 6 strikeouts. The Devils traveled to Yorkville High School on Saturday coming up with a big 2-1 win in 8 innings. Nate Rentas had a homerun. Thomas Kenny had another game winning RBI. The winning pitcher was Bradley Vondruska pitched 2 innings, gave up 0 hits and had 4 strikeouts. Warren finished the regular season with a 30-3 (13-1 NSC) record. Warren will be hosting the IHSA Regional at the Almond Campus this week. Warren will play the winner of the Wheeling/Grayslake North game on Wednesday at 4:30PM. The Regional Championship game will be Saturday at 10AM at the Almond Rd. Campus.
BOYS LACROSSE
The lacrosse team finished off the regular season with wins over Glenbrook South 10-8 and Schaumburg 11-4. Currently, the varsity record is 16-3 and Co-Champions of the NSC. The JV team finished their season with a 8-6-2 record. The IHSA Sectionals start this week. The number 1 seeded Blue Devils will play the winner of the Grant vs McHenry game on Monday at Grant High School. Game time 5 PM. The Sectional semi-finals are Wednesday at 5:30 PM. The Sectional Finals are Friday at 7 PM at Grayslake North High School.
GIRLS LACROSSE
The Varsity girls lacrosse team’s season ended on Friday. The Devils began the week with a game at Lake Forest Academy on Tuesday. They played well, but LFA played better and came out on top. On Wednesday, Warren played at McHenry. McHenry played a great game for their first year with a girl’s lacrosse team but the Devils walked away with a 17-7 win. On Friday, Warren played at the stadium against Highland Park for a play-in sectional game. It was a high energy and high paced game that was neck and neck the entire 50 minutes. Warren played hard but lost a 12-10.
GIRLS SOCCER
IHSA REGIONAL CHAMPIONS!! It was a big week for the soccer team. First up was a big 4-1 victory over Mundelein. Annika Attiah had 2 goals. Cate Cullison and Courtney Chomko each scored a goal also. Elizabeth Weinberg had 2 assists and Courtney Chomko and Ella Skelton each had an assist. Alana Turner had a save and Sarah Barbosa had 3 saves for the Devils. The Regional Final against #2 seed Libertyville was an exciting, nerve wracking 1-0 win. Cate Cullison scored the lone goal of the game for the 7th seeded Devils. Nothing got past goalkeeper Sarah Barbosa. She came up big with 6 huge saves at goal. Warren plays in the Sectional Tuesday at Buffalo Grove against Fremd with a 7 PM game time. Word in the street from the team, is that Coach McCabe said he would shave his beard if they won Regionals. Coach Mc Cabe said it is if they win Sectionals….hmmmm.
SOFTBALL
The Devils had 2 more big wins before they begin Regional play this week. On Monday, they defeated Stevenson 10-7. On Tuesday, they beat Mundelein 8-0. This week, Warren will host the IHSA Regionals at the Almond Campus. Warren will play the winner of the Lake Forest/Mt. Prospect game on Tuesday at 4:30. The Regional Final is Saturday at 11 AM at the Almond Rd. Campus.
BOYS TENNIS
The Boys Tennis completed its season of Friday night at the IHSA Sectional at Stevenson. Singles player (Cecil Mella) and doubles team (Alex Kuscsik and Tim Hidalgo) made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Lake Forest and Stevenson.
Warren played a double dual on Monday defeating Grayslake North and Cary-Grove on Monday. Three varsity and seven JV players competed on Tuesday in the Spirit of the Northwest Varsity Invite and took 2nd place. Freshmen Andreas Ackron and Rohan Iyer were both 2 + 1 in singles. Collin Sorge teamed with Max Halekakis to finish 2nd at #1 doubles. Colton Wood teamed with Brian Cacioppo to win the #2 doubles flight. Jacob Scheffler and Justin Ward took second at #3 doubles and Brian Micksch and Reid Walters won the #4 doubles.
Junior Collin Sorge led the team with 32 wins this season. Sophomore Colton Wood followed with 30 wins. Seniors Alex Kuscsik and Inman Glass are finalists for the state's sportsmanship award and we will find out early next week if either won that great honor.
Any faculty member that is interested can come to a party that the tennis program is hosting on Sunday, May 26th at the O'Plaine Campus. We will be honoring 12 former players/coaches with our recognition awards. The athletic boosters will be grilling out and food and drink will be free to our guests.
Former players (and one coach) being honored include: John Westerberg, Samuel Gudeman, Neil Shah, Ben Hardiman, Ben Skelton, Coach Jeff Bernales, Brandon Reichel, Daniel Nystrom, Scott Seiler, Nick Skradski, Stefan Radovic, and Sebastian Castanos.
On another note, this weekend marked the end of Greg Cohen’s tennis coaching career at Warren. I want to thank Greg for his unbelievable amount of time and dedication to the athletes and to the tennis program.
BOYS TRACK
It was a big night on Thursday for the Devils at the IHSA Sectional Meet! The 4x800 m relay team was Sectional Champions qualifying for the IHSA State Track Meet in Charleston. Hunter Subry, Cyrus Braza, Bryan Holland, and Jason Langivan make up the winning relay team. Cortez Albarran also qualified for the state meet in the triple jump. The State Finals are Friday and Saturday.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
The Warren track team had a very successful state finals meet over the weekend. Senior Janii Jenkins took 3rd place in the 400m run. Sophomore Annika Bynum took 3rd place in the high jump. The 4x100m relay team of Janii Jenkins, Jada Vaughn, Jataia Harris, and Kayleigh Glickley took 6th place. All of these athletes earned All-State honors with their outstanding performances. Congratulations also to Head Coach Ryan Dunn and his staff for a great season!
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The varsity volleyball ended the last week of regular season with 2 wins against Lake Park and Mundelein. The JV, Freshman A & Freshman B teams lost their matches against Lake Park and Mundelein. The varsity will begin IHSA Regional play on Monday against Carmel High School. The game will be at Libertyville High School with a 5:30 start.
